Dr. Dave recalls the Apollo 11 moon landing

At the age of 100, San Francisco Chronicle science editor emeritus David Perlman talks about the experience of covering the Apollo 11 moon mission in 1969. Fifty years after the event, he describes the technology, the people, working alongside Walter Cronkite, and the scene as scores of reporters converged to cover the history’s first moon landing.

Perlman filed thousands of words from a press room in Houston using a typewriter, a telephone, and Western Union, all the while unabashedly cheering for success. After all, he said, “it was our team up there.”
