Half a Century, One Station: David Louie Celebrates 50 Years at KGO-TV ABC7 News

By KEVIN WING | Chairperson, Media Museum of Northern California

David Louie is too modest to acknowledge that he is legendary in the Bay Area television news industry, and legendary for many reasons. Louie is not only a hard-working and dedicated television journalist, he is also accomplished and acclaimed in a great many ways.

Louie has been honored with numerous accolades through the years, including numerous regional Emmys, receiving the 2015 Governors’ Award — the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and induction into the Gold Circle (2019) and Silver Circle (1995) for 50 and 25 years, respectively, of contributions to the northern California television industry, not to mention serving as NATAS’ national chairperson from 1996 to 1998. He has done it all.

The veteran KGO-TV ABC7 journalist’s most recent accomplishment — which is something hardly anyone every achieves — is celebrating 50 years at the same station. Louie marked his 50th anniversary at the Bay Area’s ABC station in late May. He never would have imagined back in May 1972 that he would still be with the station a half-century later.

Congratulations to you and a job well done, Dave!! We are very proud of who you are and all that you have accomplished.
