Richard Lambert, a news and sports producer at KNTV NBC Bay Area, died Feb. 11. He was 50.

At the time of his death, Lambert had been the news producer of the station’s weekend editions of “Today in the Bay”. He was also a news producer and writer for many of the station’s evening newscasts.

A 21-year veteran of the station, Lambert — known to everyone as “Rick” — began there in 2000 as a sports intern, quickly working his way up to become a sports producer. After more than a decade in that role, Lambert switched over to become a news producer.

“Rick embodies everything that’s right about NBC Bay Area. Compassion, dedication, humor and work ethic,” said Raj Mathai, NBC Bay Area anchor. “He’s the guy that was behind the scenes for all of those big interviews, special assignments and Olympics that I’ve covered.”
